MONDAY 18 October – ORIENTATION AND WELCOME DINNER
Arrive mid afternoon at Avignon TGV station. Half hour later you settle into
your lodgings at Mas de Cornud. The evening events kick off with a nez
de vin training session from Serge to develop your senses
and oenological vocabulary. Dinner at Mas de Cornud.
TUESDAY 19 October - GIGONDAS AND VACQUEYRAS
Departure after breakfast to join Serge for in depth visits to wine makers in
the highly regarded appellations of Gigondas and Vacqueyras, the latter the newest
of the “grand crus” of the Rhône Valley. Lunch in the tasting room of the Maison de Vin in Gigondas. The afternoon visits and tastings will include the famous dessert wines in Beaumes de Venise. Free time for shopping or browsing in Saint Rémy
followed by a leisurely dinner at Mas de Cornud.
WEDNESDAY 20 October - SAINT REMY MARKET AND COOKING CLASS
We go with Nito to Saint Rémy for the weekly farmer’s market. She will infuse you with knowledge of our local products as you shop for ingredients. Free time to browse this fabulous market with its stalls of colorful spices, vegetables, fruits, soaps, fabrics and santons. Visit and tasting at an organic wine maker before returning to Mas de Cornud for a poolside market basket lunch. Meantime, the wood burning oven is being fired up for a lesson on cuisine
au feu followed by a delicious dinner, all accompanied
by a selection of Rhône
Valley wines selected by Serge to match the meal.
THURSDAY 21 October - CHATEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE
The premier wines of the southern Rhône Valley are in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, an exceptional
terroir where the mistral wind blows the hardest and up to 13 varieties of grapes can be used in
the wine making. After lunch in the chais of a
winemaker, we have the rest of the afternoon in Carpentras where a guide will
take you on a walking tour of this well preserved medieval city. Dinner at Chez
Serge Restaurant.
FRIDAY 22 October – MARKET DAY IN CARPENTRAS
Serge is a local celebrity in Carpentras as you will soon discover
when walking with him through the weekly farmer’s market. Visit to
the atelier of a famous pattissier/chocolatier.
After free time for shopping on your own, we rendezvous for a cheese
and wine pairing lunch at Chez Serge. Departing Carpentras, we set
off with Serge to the picturesque foothills of Mount Ventoux for a
visit to a boutique wine maker. Dinner at Mas de Cornud.
SATURDAY 23 October – DINNER AT L’OUSTAU BAUMANIERE
We start with a walking tour led by David to the asylum where Van
Gogh painted his best masterpieces including “Irises” and “Sunflowers”. Then a visit to an organic olive oil mill. Light lunch at Mas de Cornud with shuttles in the afternoon for last minute shopping in Saint Rémy as well as visiting the medieval castle at Les Baux. That evening, we are special guests at the one of the finest restaurants in France, l’Oustau
Baumaniere which has two Michelin stars and its wine cave is ranked
as a national treasure.
SUNDAY 24 October-DEPARTURE
Breakfast and transfer to Avignon TGV station.
