FÊTE DE LA TRANSHUMANCE
22-24 May 2010
Saturday, 22 May BISTRO DINNER
Evening After “aperos” at Mas de Cornud, we go by our own cars to dinner at a long table reserved for us at Bistro du Paradou, described by Patricia Wells in her Foodlover’s Guide to France as one of her most favorite places to dine in France. It has been our favorite as well ever since we bought the Mas de Cornud in 1985.  Cost 60€ per person, wine included.

Sunday, 23 May LA CUISINE PROVENÇALE: COOKING CLASS
Morning Those interested in cooking, will gather at 10h00 in the teaching kitchen at Mas de
Cornud, where Nito will demonstrate the preparation of typical Provençal dishes. The class is followed by a three-course lunch paired with wines from the region.
You can sign up for the class/lunch (135€) or for lunch only(65€). .
Afternoon

David will share his passion for his favorite painter on a visit to the Hospice Saint-Paul in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, where Van Gogh sought asylum from his mental condition and painted some of his master works including "Irises" and "Starry
Night". On a walking trip near the hospice we will visit the locales of some of his other paintings and visit the evocative Roman ruins “Les Antiques”. 20€ per person, entry fee included.

Free time to pursue the excellent artisan food stores, art galleries and boutiques in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, the quintessential Provencal village with potted geraniumsin almost every window and the natal home of Nostradamas (1503) in its narrow medieval warren of streets.
Evening Dinner on your own in one of many cafés and restaurants in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence or in the region (we will gladly make reservations for you).

Monday, 24 May FÊTE DE LA TRANSHUMANCE
Morning Every Whitmonday, the shepherds gather their flocks just outside Saint-Rémy-de- Provence until they number about 3500 sheep and goats. In traditional costumes and playing fifes and drums, they herd them three times around the circular boulevard of the village before taking them to the green pastures of the Alpilles for the summer months. It is one of Les 100 Plus Belles Fêtes de France. The morning events which include a flea market on the streets of Saint-Rémy are free of charge but attract crowds so get there early and park on the west side of the village so you won’t be blocked when the parade ends.
Afternoon Don’t be late for the “repas des bergers” at Mas de Cornud which we have been doing every year since we opened the inn and cooking school in 1993. While Nito is supervising the roasting of the lamb on a spit, David will be leading a serious game of pétanque when not replenishing the open bar. Finally we sit down at long tables for what one guest described  as “the longest lunch I have ever eaten” … all washed down with our excellent local rosé wine. 90 € per person.
